The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) is inviting businesses across the country to participate in the inaugural Kenya Business Sustainability Index (KBSI) Baseline Survey, an important initiative aimed at assessing the sustainability preparedness of Kenyan enterprises ahead of the country's evolving reporting requirements.
As Kenya moves towards the phased implementation of sustainability reporting under the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) roadmap, beginning on 1 January 2027, businesses are encouraged to start evaluating and strengthening their sustainability practices. The survey forms part of KNCCI's commitment to supporting its members in navigating this transition while enhancing their long-term competitiveness and resilience.
Sustainability is increasingly becoming a strategic business priority rather than a regulatory obligation alone. Organizations that embrace sustainable business practices are better positioned to attract investment, access new markets, strengthen stakeholder confidence, improve operational resilience, and remain compliant with emerging national and global standards.
The Kenya Business Sustainability Index will establish a national baseline on the current state of sustainability readiness among Kenyan businesses. The findings will help identify existing strengths, emerging opportunities, and areas where businesses may require additional support, capacity building, or policy interventions.
KNCCI encourages businesses of all sizes and sectors to participate. The survey is designed to be simple and accessible, taking approximately eight minutes to complete, and does not require specialist knowledge of sustainability or environmental reporting.
All responses will be handled with strict confidentiality and analysed only in aggregated form. The questionnaire also includes a consent section to ensure the responsible handling of participant information in line with ethical data management practices.
Participating members will benefit from early access to a summary of the final insights report, providing valuable information on sustainability readiness trends across the business community, emerging opportunities, and practical recommendations that can help organizations prepare for future reporting requirements and strengthen their sustainability strategies.
